A study is useful only to the extent that its question resembles the decision in front of you.
In practice
Write down who participated, which formulation was used, what it was compared with and what outcome was measured. Then look for uncertainty, conflicting findings and limits in applying the result elsewhere.
Study appraisal cannot provide an individual treatment or supplement recommendation.
